COVID-19 Emergency Vaccination Programme

Statement from Bassetlaw CCG:

“Local health and care partners are responding to the latest government announcement to give booster COVID vaccinations to all eligible adults who want one by the end of December.  We have already undertaken over 220,000 vaccinations across our community but now plan to increase this significantly and deliver more per day than ever before.

The speed of spread of the new Omicron variant is very concerning and appears to be doubling every 2-3 days.  This means that within just a few weeks there will be a very high peak of positive cases.  This would mean people being in isolation or caring for those that are which would put additional enormous pressure on health and social care in terms of workforce and likely more patients being admitted with severe disease.

The third booster jab appears to provide much improved protection than just two jabs against severe disease from this new highly transmissible variant.  We are therefore encouraging all our staff, local citizens and patients to Get Boosted! as soon as possible to ensure we can keep our local community and local services safe.

How do I get a booster jab?

Our local Primary Care Networks have been providing vaccinations for patients throughout the year and will continue to do so.  Local people should continue to make their booster appointment via the National Booking Line (NBL) by phoning 0800 030 8013.    Alternatively you can book on the website (try and use in quieter periods of the day/night): Book or manage a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination – NHS (

To respond to the expected increase in demand we are already increasing the availability of vaccination appointment slots so that people have the convenience of access within the Bassetlaw area (including Worksop and Retford).

Our local primary care teams, supported by colleagues across our hospital and community services, will continue as much as possible to respond to demands for primary care services as well as provide COVID and Flu vaccinations.  However, this new request from the government will mean that the provision of local primary care services will need to be carefully assessed on an ongoing basis over the next few weeks so that we can accelerate delivery of the boosters.”

Riverside Update 13/12/2021 5:00PM:

Following NHS Guidance and the recent update on the National Emergency for COVID-19 Vaccinations, we will be pausing all elective and chronic disease monitoring for the next 2-4 weeks.

We will be contacting anyone who has a pre-booked appointment if this needs to be cancelled. Please do not contact the surgery.

We will be allocating staff to support the vaccination programme into extended opening hours.

Please be assured our clinicians will continue to see urgent same day medical cases during this time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Riverside Update 13/12/2021 11:15AM:

After yesterdays government announcement, we are currently working on plans regarding COVID-19 Vaccinations and Boosters.

We do know that as of Wednesday 15th December, the National Booking System will be updated to allow over 18s to book a booster (as long as it’s been 3 months since 2nd dose.)

Further updates will be published soon so please do bear with us.

Thank you.
