The Great Tommy Sleep Out 12/04/2024
At Riverside, we are very proud to be a Veterans Friendly Practice and holders of the Silver Award in the Employee Recognition Scheme having signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
The staff have raised vital funds for a number of armed forces charities in recent years including Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Help For Heroes and this year for the Royal British Legion.
Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) is a national charity and since 1919 they have provided crucial accommodation, welfare and employment support to injured veterans and people with disabilities. They improve lives every day by inspiring those they help and supporting them to find work and lead independent lives.
Originating in 2021, The Great Tommy Sleep Out has supporters raise funds for the sharp increase in numbers of homeless veterans in the UK between 2020 and 2021. The challenge includes committing to sleeping outside for one night or more during the month of March which does not replicate rough sleeping, but it gives us an idea of the situation that far too many of our nation’s heroes find themselves in.
On 12th April 2024, a large number of staff will brave the cold to sleep out under the stars whilst fundraising for our most vulnerable veterans. We have veterans on our work force as well as numerous members of staff of the Armed forces family who have husbands/wives/children in active service today.
Every £ we raise will help support the estimated 6,000 veterans that are experiencing homelessness in the UK right now allowing RBLI to provide safe homes and to support the veterans who need to get back on their feet.
