If possible please try to telephone reception before 10am if you require a home visit. URGENT visits may be made at any time during our opening times. Please give the receptionist some indication of the problem so the doctor-on-call can assess the urgency and priority.
A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or arrange a hospital attendance.
House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.
We encourage patients to attend the health centre whenever possible as most consultations are better undertaken within the health centre’s environment.
On average, two or three patients can be seen in the health centre in the time it takes to do one home visit. We believe it is better for doctors to spend their time seeing patients rather than in their cars travelling to and from visits. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre. It is rare for a child to need a home visit.
