The Great Tommy Sleep Out Results!
On the 12th April 2024, staff at Riverside Health Centre took part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out to raise funds for homeless veterans.
15 members of staff who took part, managed to raise an incredible £2,132 in online donations plus gift aid on the night, with that benchmark continuing to being raised.
It was tough for just one night with lots of aches, pains, and sores but staff took it upon themselves to simulate sleeping rough by sleeping in sleeping bags on cardboard boxes with no home comforts whilst reflecting on those who have no choice but to sleepout night after night. We were blessed with the weather, but everybody stated that they would not wish to do the same in the cold and wet and experience what must be like on a nightly basis for the veterans that are experiencing homelessness.
Here’s what some of the staff said about taking part in such a task: “Sleeping on the ground with just a sleeping bag was an experience that I will always remember” and “The following night, I slept very well and have never felt so much gratitude to have a roof over my head”.

We sincerely hope that the funds we raised will make a difference to our homeless veterans who so deserve much more. Thank you to all those that took part in this event and an even bigger thank you to those who donated. Here’s to next year!
